The Football National Cup continues for Reading School after an emphatic 6 - 0 victory in Round 1 with a tough match away against Bradfield College next Tuesday. You can confirm your availability in the unchanged team on the Sports Notice Board.
Congratulations to all of the boys who participated in today's rugby block fixture against Windsor Boys. Each team played with skill and spirit from the start and ultimately have achieved some excellent results, including five victories from six matches and a total of 190 points scored (or, if you prefer, a points difference of +117).
The two U14 squads deserve a special mention, with two outstanding, emphatic wins - considering that we were only expecting to put out one Year 9 side this year, this is an excellent achievement. Today is the first rugby block fixture of the new season, with the 1st XV, 2nd XV, U16, U15, U14A and U14B teams kicking off at 10:00 against Windsor Boys.
The 1st XI Football team made an extremely strong and positive start to the school year with an impressive 6 - 0 win against Lord Williams' College from Oxford in Round 1 of the National Cup. The game was played at Cantley Park in Wokingham with Rawlinson scoring 4 goals and Wallace winning the Man of the Match prize.
The squad will play Bradfield College in the second round in a couple of weeks.
The U18s National Football Cup begins next Thursday for the Reading School 1st XI against Lord Williams' School in Oxford. The match will be played at home but at an alternative pitch. The squad will be selected at a trial led by Mr Allen next Tuesday - anyone is welcome to attend. To sign up for the trial, please write your name on the Sign Up sheet (by the P.E. Office) or sign up here.
This term, a large variety of clubs are available to take part in:
House Competition begins again this Monday after school with Senior House Table Tennis. Teams of four need to be ready to play at 15:30 with white kit and trainers required to play.
County House will be the team to beat this year after they secured victory in the Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 competitions. Only the Seniors competition went against them, with West House taking the win. The following changes to the list of rugby fixtures have been made (these have now been updated on the main Fixtures Page).
Training for Match Division Rugby is already underway. The weekly timetable for training is as follows:
All sessions will run from 15:30 until 17:00.
For this year's U15 and 1st XV teams, the School Rugby FA Cup equivalent is beginning this month. Dating back to 1987, the Natwest National Rugby Schools Cup begins this month for our Year 10 and Senior Rugby players. But it's a long journey. The competition starts with each school competing in one of eight location based knock out competitions - for the 1st XV sides, that's five tough matches before an area final, whereas the U15s must face an additional sixth before playing in the final.
Finally, if the team is successful in the Area Final, the remaining schools battle it out in three final rounds, filmed and streamed live online, with the Final taking place at the centre of English Rugby - Twickenham. It may be a long and seemingly impossible journey, but it has been done by a Reading School side. Despite falling into the Vase competition late in October, the 2013/2014 U15 side competed incredibly to reach the Quarter Finals of the National Vase, knowing that the Final of the Vase would also be played at Twickenham. Despite an unfortunate defeat to St. George's College in Weybridge in that Quarter Final, it shows that winning consecutive games is not as hard as it sounds, and it has been done. Perhaps this year's U15 or 1st XV team will make it all the way to Twickenham this year? The new school year - 2015/16 - has arrived after a long and relaxing, if cold, summer break. You will be able to sign up for Match Division Rugby during Games lessons this week, with some training sessions also taking place.
All Rugby fixtures currently in the School Calendar have been added onto the website with button links to individual match pages. Although these will provide you with a clear guide as to when fixtures will be taking place, be aware that additional fixtures may be organised later in the term, including County Cup games. The P.E. Department wish you an enjoyable and physically active academic year. Congratulations to everyone involved.
Player of the Tournament: T Francis (2009 Leaver)
Today is set to be an excellent day of rugby, with 7 teams taking part in a round-robin tournament. Format
Fixtures
Rugby Pre-Season Training will take place for Years 11, 12 and 13 this week on Wednesday (10:00 until 15:00), Thursday (16:00 until 17:30) and Friday (16:00 until 17:30).
The majority of rugby fixtures can now be viewed on the "Fixtures" and "Calendar" pages. You can also find the next three fixtures for your year group on each specific year's homepage (available by hovering over the "Home" button).
1st XV, 2nd XV and U16 fixtures now have individual fixture pages, accessible by clicking the "Match Details" button link next to each fixture on the "Fixtures" page. Other year group fixture pages will be added before the start of next term. After a brilliant twelve days out in California, our football teams have touched down back in London after a super experience. A selection of the best photographs are now available in the gallery and result details are easily accessible using the navigation bar. If you haven't been keeping up with the tour, here is a reminder of their activities:
Congratulations to the 1st XI who won their final match on tour 2 - 0 against Fullerton Rangers. In the two other games, the 2nd XI lost 5 - 0 and the 3rd XI lost 2 - 0.
Although there are still a couple of days left of the tour to go, Mr Bellinger has given out a selection of awards in Universal Studios' Hard Rock Cafe.
In sunny conditions, the 1st and 2nd XI teams both drew their games against Legends F.C. Meanwhile, the 3rd XI had lots of positives to take into their final game on tour after losing their match.
Two Reading teams faced Coastal Valley Football Club today, with one win and one loss.
Following a six hour journey from San Francisco to Santa Barbara down the West coast of America, the squads are ready for more football! After 90 minutes of high quality football, the 1st XI came close as they lost 3 - 1 to Santa Clara Sporting. The 3rd XI maintained an unbeaten record however with a 4 - 0 victory and the 2nd XI were ultimately defeated 5 - 0 by the U16 State Champions.
The teams play two more matches today. A complete list of rugby fixtures for the Michaelmas Term is now available on the Fixtures page. Button links will be operational before the end of this month and team sheets should be available at least 48 hours before each match.
