The results are in and County House have once again dominated House Basketball this year. House Basketball normally takes place in the Michaelmas Term, but was postponed this year due to the refurbishment of the gym. However, this didn't stop County coming away with five of the six titles in the sport, adding 23 points to their house total as a result. Unfortunately for County, a 4th place finish for Year 11s means that the clean sweep has evaded them for yet another year, but their dominance in the sport has led to the house creating an impressive 22 point lead over rivals East House.
Though this lead may seem too large to overhaul at this stage of the competition, the new competition system means that several departments around the school will be offering house points in the form of House General Knowledge, Eisteddfod and Science Writing, to name just a few. These events have not yet taken place, and could yet change the destination of the House Cup. There is an additional fixture for both Year 7 teams at home at 3pm tomorrow against Desborough College.
Year 10 House Table Tennis Result: Tied 1st: County and East 3rd: School 4th: West The website should be back to normal over the coming few days.
Please note that there is no bus transport to away fixtures against Reading Blue Coat this Saturday. The U15s produced a superb performance on Monday to progress into the Semi Finals of the County Cup by defeating Edgbarrow School 50 - 0. Meanwhile, our football 1st XI were unfortunately knocked out of their County Cup today with a 2 - 0 loss to Piggott. Year 10 House Table Tennis will take place after school next Monday and Year 11 House Table Tennis has been postponed to next Tuesday. Congratulations to County House who won this evening's Senior House Table Tennis. West finished 2nd, School and East tied for 3rd and Laud House finished 5th in their first ever house competition.
Fixture News This week's Football County Cup fixture has been postponed to next Wednesday while the 2nd XV team have an additional fixture away to Desborough College next Wednesday. More information is available on the Sports Notice Board. Please note that House Table Tennis will start with the Senior competition next Monday and not today as previously stated. The competitions for all other year groups will also take place a week later than scheduled.
People taking part should have white kit and indoor trainers and each team must have four competitors. Unfortunately, due to the redevelopment of the gym, the eagerly anticipated House Ghost will not be taking place this year, but will hopefully be introduced in 2017. Today marks the first of the school's arguably most enjoyable two days in the school calendar. For the first time, inter house cricket for A teams will be split over two days instead of one, with each day lasting from 9:00 until 15:00. The A team results will be mixed with those of the B and C teams, so that the winners for each year group are determined. In the Year 10 competition, the absence of B and C teams means that the winner of the competition will be determined by the number of A team matches won. Two matches will take place at a time on the front field, with one on the main pitch and the other on the pitch near to Music School.
Fixtures (all matches consist of ten overs per innings):
Competitors must register during form time - competitors for the morning session should start to get ready from 8:30, and competitors for the afternoon session should start to get ready from 11:30. Students that are not involved will be allowed to at least watch their own year group play, but these students must register first with their teacher - this includes at the start of period 2. Senior House Chess took place this evening. Here are the results:
After school today marked the first of three House Chess competitions taking place over the next few months.
The result of the Colts competition (Years 9 and 10) was 1st -- East House (9 points) 2nd -- School House (7.5 points) 3rd -- West House (6.5 points) 4th -- County House (1 point) The last week of half term proved to be an outstanding showcase of sport. In Rugby, the 1st XV played Desborough College and the U15s won against Easthampstead School. Meanwhile, West and East House took equal 1st place in the Year 7 House Table Tennis.
The main event of the week though was House Basketball. All 6 House Basketball contests took place, with County House securing four victories. East House and County House each took one victory. Having started the school year already over 20 points behind County, West House needed a strong performance in Basketball to close the gap - however, they finished the week without a win. After a confident 45 - 7 victory last Thursday against Upton Court Grammar in the National Vase, the U15s faced Easthampstead School today in the second round of the County Cup. In a thrilling contest which saw Reading dominate throughout, the team won superbly 48 - 5 to bring an end to a thrilling Half Term of Rugby.
Although the rugby action is taking a break next week during half term, tomorrow is set to be a crucial day in terms of the House Cup, with the Year 8s and Seniors competing in House Basketball. The last week of the term is set to be huge in the context of the House Cup, with seven sport competitions taking place in the Gym. All six House Basketball competitions are taking place, with our new Year 7s being treated to both House Basketball and House Table Tennis in the space of three hours on Monday.
County House are looking to continue with their success in the House Cup last year, and that plan has started perfectly with 1st place in Year 8 House Table Tennis. However, will County be able to maintain a 100% record next week, with Year 7 House Table Tennis and House Basketball for all year groups?
School House took 2nd place, East took 3rd and West took 4th. Our Table Tennis tables have now been fixed, which means that the House Cup returns tomorrow with Year 8 House Table Tennis after school in the gym, from 15:30 until 17:00. There must be four players in each team - white kit and indoor trainers are required to compete.
With House Table Tennis and House Basketball competitions taking place in the next few weeks, the gym will be available at Break times for House practices and trials. However, these must be arranged in advance and supervised by a member of staff. Although school uniform may be worn, boys must wear indoor trainers. House Competitions commence tomorrow with Year 9 House Table Tennis. All Table Tennis competitions will start promptly at 15:30 in the gym and each team will need four players.
A full list of upcoming House Events is available on the "House Competitions" page. House Competition begins again this Monday after school with Senior House Table Tennis. Teams of four need to be ready to play at 15:30 with white kit and trainers required to play.
County House will be the team to beat this year after they secured victory in the Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 competitions. Only the Seniors competition went against them, with West House taking the win. |
